About Tommy's Stump Grinding
Tommy's Stump Grinding is a stump grinding business working out of Lewisville, North Carolina. We do one thing: we bring a stump grinder to the stump, grind it to chips below the level of the lawn, and rake the spot level before we leave. The business is based on Shallowford Road in Lewisville, NC, and the machine works from there across Forsyth County and the towns around it.
The name says what the trade is. A stump grinder is a compact machine with a spinning wheel of carbide teeth. It rolls to the stump, shaves the stump and its root flare into wood chips pass after pass, and leaves the wood several inches under the surface, the finish the trade calls "below grade". Nothing is dug out and no truck crosses the yard. A visit ends with the chips raked back into the hole and the lawn ready for seed, or with the chips hauled off when you ask.
A call is how every job starts. You tell us how wide the stump is at ground level and how we reach it, and we quote the whole job before we start, with no surprise charges after. We answer the phone or call back the same working day, we show up when we say we will, and we clean up when the work is done. That is the whole of the business, and the work it takes on is listed next.

The work the business takes on
The business grinds tree stumps and the roots that break the surface around them, for houses and for managed sites. Every job below is the same machine and the same visit, quoted before we start.
- Stump grinding. The stump left after a tree comes down, ground below grade so grass grows back.
- Old stumps. The one in the lawn you have mowed around for years, and the row of shrub stubs along a fence.
- Surface roots. The raised roots running out from the stump, ground in the same visit so the mower passes.
- Several stumps in one visit. A cleared lot, a storm's worth of stumps, or a hedgerow of stubs in one pass.
- Residential yards. Through the gate and up to fences, patios and foundations.
- Commercial lots and common areas. Many stumps on one site for property managers and HOA boards, priced for the visit.
Anything on that list is a phone call away. What it does not cover is just as short.
What it does not take on
Felling, pruning and general tree work are separate trades and are not part of what is offered here. Tommy's Stump Grinding does stump grinding only: we do not take a standing tree down or trim one. When a tree still has to come down, we point you to a certified arborist for that work and come back for the stump once it is on the ground. Digging out the whole root ball is a different job again, and not one we offer. Cover is the question people ask next.
Cover and credentials
Questions about cover and credentials are answered when you call. We would rather say it to you plainly on the phone, with the job in front of us, than print a line here that you have to take on trust. Ask what you want to know and you get a straight answer the same working day. Where the machine goes is the last question.
Where the work is done
The work is done in Lewisville and the towns around it. Clemmons, Bethania, Winston-Salem, King, Walkertown and Kernersville see the machine most weeks, and Bermuda Run, Tobaccoville, Rural Hall and Advance sit on the same routes. The full service area of Tommy's Stump Grinding is listed town by town on the service area around Lewisville. A job farther out than that is a question for the call.
What our neighbors say
Tommy came out the same week and took the old maple right down below the lawn. He raked it level before he left and you cannot tell where it stood.
We had three of them and a mess of raised roots along the drive. All of it went in one visit and the spoil went back into the holes.
Needed a big pine out before the new turf went down. Quoted over the phone, done two days later, and the spot was left flat and ready.

Tell us how wide it is.
Say how wide the stump is at the ground and how we reach it, and the quote is set on the call. We show up when we say we will, and we clean up when the work is done.
